On December 17, we went on a tour of Rothenburg. This is one of Germany's "storybook cities". It is a medieval town surrounded by most of the original wall. 

To the right of the tower you can walk on the city wall. There are pictures from up there next.

Reimenschneider sculpture in the St. James Lutheran Church 

This is the main altar in the St. James Lutheran Church. 

This plaque is at the foot of the wood carving in the next picture. It has the artist's name and year it was done. 

This carving is by the famous artist, Tilmon Reimenschneider. 

The crystal in the cross is said to contain drops of sacramental blood.

This is the town hall. Way up in the left hand corner is the bottom of the tower. It's cut out of the picture, but there will be pictures from the top of the tower later. 

This is part of the Christmas market. All of the people huddle around in groups are drinking gluwien. 

The towers on this church were built by an architect and his apprentice. The tower surrounded by scaffolding was built by the apprentice, and it was admired more than the architect's. Legend says the architect threw himself off his tower because he couldn't handle being second best. 

This is near the town square; it's part of the main street that runs through the middle of Rothenburg.
